Histamine, Inflammation & Period Pain

Histamine, Inflammation & Oestrogen - Period Pain

High histamine and oestrogen fuel a vicious feedback loop.

  • Oestrogen prompts mast cells to release histamine and lowers the DAO enzyme, which clears it. In return, high histamine upregulates aromatase, the enzyme that converts androgens into oestrogen, pushing oestrogen levels even higher.

High histamine is linked to worsened period pain.

  • We need to reduce oestrogen and histamine to break this loop - you may also have high histamine and not high oestrogen.

High histamine is linked to PMS, migraines, endometriosis and allergies.

  • This bidirectional cycle is why issues like PMS migraines, endometriosis, and cycle-related allergies often spike during ovulation or premenstrual phases.

Histamine can make endometriosis significantly worse by fueling a vicious inflammatory cycle.

  • Endometriosis lesions contain high numbers of mast cells, which release histamine.

  • Histamine amplifies pelvic pain signaling, triggers painful uterine contractions, and stimulates estrogen production. In turn, estrogen triggers the release of even more histamine
