What is Corneotherapy?

Corneotherapy is an evidence-based approach to supporting and treating skin; and is widely acknowledged as the future of skin care and is often called the ‘Naturopathy of skin therapies’

Focused on skin health and preservation, Corneotherapy prioritises the repair and maintenance of your skins natural barrier function.

The skins natural barrier function consists of 3 very important components of the skin;

  1. the microbiome - which is the healthy bacteria and microbes on the skin surface.

  2. the acid mantle - slightly acidic delicate film from the skins water and oil components maintaining a healthy skin barrier.

  3. the stratum corneum - the top layer of the epidermis (skin) that is in contact with the environment. Important for skin cell communication, protecting your skin’s hydration and protecting your skin from the outside environment.

Maintaining the integrity of your skin’s natural barrier function, and keeping the skin in a state of homeostasis (the balance of physiological processes that keep the skin healthy) prevents various skin conditions, such as acne.

Corneotherapists use skincare and treatments that help your skin return to homeostasis and promote the repair and health of skin cells, which supports and promotes healthy skin!

Corneotheraputic Skincare

Corneotherapeutic skin care is designed to be compatible with your skins natural functions, to restore and support skin health. Corneotherapeutic skincare therefore does not contain known ingredients that can be detrimental to the skin barrier or health of your skin cells; including avoiding common preservatives, emulsifiers, silicones, fragrances, and colors. Most skincare brands and products are not Corneotheraputic and often disrupt your skin barrier and can even create/worsen skin conditions such as acne, therefore it is key to use Corneotherapeutic skincare to look after your skin. I prescribe Prologic Skincare as it is a high quality practitioner-only Corneotherapeutic skincare range.

Why visit a Corneotherapist?

Corneotherapists are qualified skin therapists with a holistic approach to caring for your skin; with thorough skin consultations that consider diet, lifestyle, skin history, and medical history, with a focus on repairing and preparing the skin for improved health. Corneotherapists prioritise your skins healthy processes, and avoid products and treatments that impair barrier function.
